Why are we affected by Adam and Eve's wrong decision?

November 25, 2019 Sin Reading Time: 1 minute, 39 seconds

A: Dear Alexa,

Your question is a very important one. It seems unfair to us that we have to live in a world of sin because of Adam and Eve’s sin. The problem is that Adam and Eve’s sin has infected us. That was exactly what the devil wanted to have happen. He hoped that once we were infected, God would just destroy us all, because he knew God couldn’t allow the infection in His universe. The truth is that there is no other place in the universe we can live now because our sin would infect that place, too. If you went to another world, and told just one lie, or cheated in a game just one time, or lost your temper just one time, or talked back to your parents just once, it would spread the infection of sin onto that world, too, and it would become as wicked as our world is.

But God didn’t want to destroy us, so He had to come up with a plan to get rid of the infection of sin so we could live with Him again. That’s why He sent Jesus. Jesus didn’t have to come and die on the cross. God could have just destroyed everyone, and then you and I would never have been born; but then we would never have a chance to live with God forever. So God started His plan of saving humanity be sending Jesus to die the death we should have died, and to begin a work in our hearts to get rid of our sin. It may not seem fair to us, but when we consider the alternatives, it is the most loving thing God could ever do. And even in this sinful world, no matter what happens to us, we will never have to suffer as much as Jesus suffered on the cross to save us.

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
