Is it wrong to use bad words when you are baptized?

November 25, 2019 Character, baptism Reading Time: 0 minutes, 49 seconds

A: Dear Debora,

It is NEVER good to say bad words, but especially not for a baptized person. Jesus said we should be careful not to speak. He said “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37).

Baptism is a way of telling everybody that we have chosen to love Jesus and live for Him, and that He lives in us. A baptized person wants to be sure that they only say words that Jesus would say. Now that doesn’t mean that baptized people don’t make mistakes and sometimes do things they shouldn’t do, but if we do, we need to ask Jesus for forgiveness, and ask Him to help us to choose good words instead of bad words.

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
