What would of happened if Adam didn't eat the fruit?
A: Dear Anique B.,
Your question is a very good one, but I’m not sure I can give a very good answer. The Bible doesn’t tell us what would have happened if Adam didn’t eat the fruit, so we can only guess. The Bible does tell us that Adam is the father of the human race, and that through him sin came to every person (Romans 5:12). Because both Adam and Eve were sinners by nature, they could only pass on to their children their own sinful natures. If Adam hadn’t sinned, however, he could have passed on a righteous nature. I think God still would have done something to save Eve, but exactly what he would have done we can’t be sure.
The important thing for us is to make sure that we don’t follow Adam’s example of disobedience, but Jesus’ example of obedience. The Bible calls him “the last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45). That is because Jesus came to live the life of perfect obedience that Adam didn’t live. And just as we received the disobedient life of Adam through our birth, Jesus promises to give us His life of perfect obedience through the new birth when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. And that’s why we love Him so and want to tell others about Him!
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
Your friend,
Pastor Howard
