Why did Jesus die for our sins and not the Father or the Holy Spirit?
A: Dear Cassidy,
Thank you for such a thoughtful question. I’m not positive about the answer, because the Bible doesn’t say why Jesus was the One who came to die for our sins. I believe it was because Jesus is our Creator. The Bible tells us “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). Because He made us, He wanted to be the One to redeem us.).
However, the Bible also teaches that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16). This tells us that it wasn’t because Jesus loved us more that He was the One to die. He said “the Father Himself loves you…” (John 16:27). We can be sure that we are loved in heaven by the Father, the Son, the Spirit and all the heavenly beings, because “There is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10). If we are faithful to choose to live for Jesus every day, then when we get to heaven, we can ask Him why He was the One who came, and He will be glad to tell us!
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
