When you witness to people and they get mad–how do you know if you said the right thing or wrong thing?

A: Dear Jessica,

Thanks for your question. It’s hard to say whether you said anything “wrong” without knowing what you said or how you said it, but you need to remember that we all say things wrong once in a while. Sometimes people get mad because when you begin to talk about spiritual things, they are convicted by the Holy Spirit. That makes them feel uncomfortable, and because they can’t see the Holy Spirit, they think it is you who is making them uncomfortable.

Sometimes our approach may be too direct and they feel like we are being judgmental and saying we are better than them. It is always important to remember that when we share Jesus with others, we need to pray to Jesus to help us to know just what to say and how to say it. Then we can claim His promise in Isaiah 50:4 that says “The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary.”

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
