Is GOD and JESUS the same person?
A: Dear Virginia,
Thanks so much for watching the show, and thanks for your question. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the “Son of God”, and that He is a separate person from the One we would call God the Father. The Bible also tells us that Jesus is God the Son. We can call Jesus “God” just like we call His Father “God,” but they are different individuals. It is kind of like a family name. Your last name is Harris, just like others in your family. You are all “Harris,” but you are different people. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all different people, but we can call all three “God” – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We can see all three at the baptism of Jesus –
And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17).
We see Jesus standing in the water, the Holy Spirit was above Him in the form of a dove, and God the Father’s voice was heard from heaven. Here we see all three persons of what the Bible calls “the Godhead” (Colossians 2:9). So you see, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are all God, but are three different people that together make up “the Godhead”.
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
