What about wearing jeans to church?
Dear Charity,
I am forwarding your e-mail to someone who can answer your questions about the website.
As far as wearing jeans to church, your mom is trying to teach you how to be reverent and respectful toward God. Jeans have always been “casual” clothing. People wear jeans when they are working, playing or relaxing. People don’t wear jeans for important events. If a person was invited to go to the palace of a king or queen, they would not wear blue jeans (unless they had total disrespect of the king or queen). They would wear a nice suit or dress for the occasion. When we appear before God, we should not wear casual clothes, but something special. This shows our love and respect for God.
Some people don’t have moms that teach them about reverence in God’s house, and maybe it is because THEIR MOMS didn’t have moms who taught them! Some people don’t care what they wear in God’s house, but I believe we need to appear before God wearing the best we have. For some people, that may be jeans. It may not be a suit or dress, but it should be our best. Be thankful that you have a mom who is teaching you how to love and respect God!
I’m sorry to hear about the people who are bullying you at your church. You need to pray for them. You should also let someone know about their behavior, like your parents, and maybe the Sabbath School teacher or pastor. Ask Jesus to help you treat them like He would.
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
Your friend, Pastor Howard
