Why did God make the earth?
A: Dear Yemisi,
I can think of two main reasons that God made the earth.
First, God is a Creator. A creator is someone who makes things. Creators like to make beautiful things. The Bible tells us that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1). Have you ever made a nice picture for your parents or grandparents. The Bible says God made us in His image, and He has put some of His creative nature into us. Of course, God is the only true Creator, because people who create things only make them from the things that God has already made!
The second reason I can think of that God made the earth is because the Bible says “God is love.” (1 John 4:8). When you make those nice pictures for your parents or grandparents, how does it make you feel when they say, “Oh, what a nice picture! Thank you!” It makes them happy, and that’s one of the reasons you like to do it. God loves His creatures (like you and me), and He loves to make us happy. He made the earth as a special present for us, so that they would enjoy His beautiful gift.
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
